About Novabook
Novabook is the “Accountant for Startups” founded by Stephen Wilks & Lukas Feddern. Our team previously founded, scaled and sold a technology company for $50M. We started Novabook to solve the problems we faced during this process. Our aim is to make the financial processes of starting, running and selling a business in the UK easier.

We are a small, rapidly growing team of 50 people at the moment (18 people in the engineering & product team, 6 in the sales & marketing team). Our first venture together was senecalearning.com, which scaled to 12M users and a successful acquisition in 2022.
After launching in May 2024, we have 1000+ clients, £3M ARR and are growing quickly, this is an opportunity to join the ride at an early stage. In December 2025 we raised a £7.5M seed funding round to continue our growth.
Novabook was born out of our personal experiences with the shortcomings of traditional accountancy practices while running Seneca. After dealing with inefficient software and unreliable accountancies for 8 years, we believe it's time to tackle these challenges head-on.
In addition to having built an 8-figure startup before, our founders have been named on the Forbes 30 under 30 list and Maserati 100. Our team also has experience working at Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Financial Times, and Forward Partners.
What technological problems are we solving?
Software that accounting firms currently run on is extremely outdated & disjointed. This results in a lot of manual work, which is costly and error-prone. We are building a suite of integrated products to automate 90% of the workflow within accounting firms. We are rapidly scaling our engineering team to facilitate this build-out across workflow, payments, open banking, payroll & automated bookkeeping domains.
Some examples of recent projects:
Evaling the performance of our AI document ingestion pipeline
Minting and embedding real bank accounts into our application to allow clients to pay bills and employees
Automating the categorisation of bank transactions using AI agents
Building an orchestration layer to empower accountants to create agents for repetitive tasks
Building out employee systems of record for payroll
What is our tech stack?
TypeScript monorepo
Lambdas - APIs serving the app and several asynchronous queue orchestrated flows
Next.js web app deployed on Vercel, here we have a full component library with custom theme built-in
React native mobile app
AI workflows across multiple business domains
We primarily use Jest & Playwright for tests.

How do we work & what is the culture like?
We work in an agile way & continuously adapt our processes via retrospective. We work in 4-week product cycles followed by a 1-week “cool down” period for addressing technical debt & planning. We have daily stand-ups in each team & use Linear for project management and tracking.

What we’re looking for in you:
Strong academic background in a STEM-based subject e.g. Comp Sci, Maths, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry etc
Experience with our technology stack
Desire to take full end-to-end ownership of problems from solution ideation all the way out into production
Hardworking & desire to build an amazing company
About the application process
The hiring process consists of three steps:
15-minute call with Cofounder
A take-home technical task
Final stage: back-to-back cultural and technical video call interviews with the cofounders & engineering team
